Our little Lucas turned 6 months on April 10th. My how the time has flown. I flood my cell phone and camera with pictures of him on a daily basis. Not only so I’ll never forget how precious this little guy is but so one day he can enjoy seeing himself as the adorable little one he is and share it with his wife and kids.
Every month I take a portrait of him on my nursing rocker. Every month I’m blown away by how much he has grown. He’s such a good baby. Only cries when he’s hungry or tired. He loves to just sit and watch the world around him. Although now he tries to grab everything within arms reach including my hair, nose and grandma’s earrings.
At 6 months he’s able to roll around and spin himself in circles. He has yet to crawl but he scoots backwards a little bit here and there as we find him in the most peculiar spots. His favorite toy is this silly spider looking thing his Uncle Herman gave to him. He also enjoys straps and buckles. He’d rather chew on his fingers and has no use for a pacifier anymore but he still likes to play with them. He’s even started to share it and tries to shove it in my mouth.
He wants to sit up in the worst way. He’s so tired of laying on his back and gets frustrated on his stomach when he can’t move or reach something. With a little help he’s learning to sit.
His favorite past time is his Jump and Play. We’ve already had to raise it up to the 2nd notch as he’s getting taller and taller. He’ll sit and bounce and laugh in this thing all day long. (Thanks Aunt Andrea!)
His favorite part of his bouncer is the black and white butterfly that crinkles. He just loves to suck on it!
He can finally reach the top part of his bouncer. Aye, stop growing!
Proof I take too many pictures of him…
At 5 months we started him on some homemade solids. So far he likes everything we’ve given him. Blended carrots, apples, butternut squash, spinach, peas, string beans, pears and even prunes. At the sight of a spoon he gets excited as he knows something yummy is coming.
This is his favorite sleeping position. Hands behind the head and bottom of his feet touching. He fights naps during the day even though if I lay down with him and nurse him, he can fall asleep mid afternoon for a good 3 hours. Typically a 10 minute cat nap here and there perks him up, as long as I don’t wake him up with the click of my camera… oops! I can’t complain though, he’s been sleeping almost through the night since birth and with the introduction to solid foods he sleeps a good 8-9 hours a night. He always wakes up with a big smile on his face which is the best way to start my day!
Every day I grow more in love with this little man. I don’t know how thats possible but it is. Although some days are tough, the sound of his cry breaks my heart but the sight of his smile turns me to mush. I’ll do anything to make him laugh, no matter how goofy it makes me look. Just ask my husband as he’s witnessed my crazy dance moves whether in the kitchen cooking or out shopping.
He’s turning into a bit of a mama’s boy, but I don’t mind. It makes working and getting things done a little harder but they’re only little once so I treasure every minute with him. He looks at his bigger brother with such awe. Dylan looks to hug Lucas, read to him and make him laugh. He makes sure to say hi to him when he comes home from school and hugs and kisses him before bed. I love watching their friendship blossom and can’t wait to see the two of them interact when Lucas is on his feet.
I look forward to what the next 6 months of his first year will bring, although I’m in no way rushing it.
